Family #14 – EKA Robert Harrell 1844

This family is the newest to have been discovered having a matching DNA profile. The EKA is Robert Harrell b. Jan 3, 1844 in Wytheville, Wythe Co., VA, d. Feb 21, 1915 in Liberty Hill, Grainger Co., TN, married May 18, 1875 Grainger Co., TN to Martha Minerva Jones b. Sept 6, 1847 TN, d. Oct 5, 1912 Liberty Hill, Grainger Co., TN. The children of EKA Robert Harrell 1844 & Martha are believed to be: William Posey, Taylor, Grover, Matilda, Melvina & Lutana (twins), and Jacob Enoch Based on DNA matching and circumstantial evidence, it is strongly believed that this EKA descends from Family #1 as follows: Robert Harrell b. 1844 < Jacob M. Harrell b. abt 1815 Wythe Co., VA < Jacob Harrell d. 1821 Wythe Co., VA < William Harrell b. abt 1750 VA, d. 1822 Wythe Co., VA. The DNA donor descends from this EKA as follows: Donor: Clyde S. Harrell < Clyde E. Harrell 1918, d. 2001 < Jacob Enoch Harrell 1893 < Robert Harrell 1844. As additional information is obtained on this family, more will be provided.

Descendants of William Sr. Harrell (~1740-1750)

JACOB HARRELL is speculated to be the father of WILLIAM SR. HARRELL, however proof of this is lacking. We believe that JACOB was born bet. 1710-1720 in VA, and that he married MARTHA CALFEE, who we believe was born bet. 1711-1715. We include Jacob and Martha here for suggested consideration, and further study is needed.

WILLIAM SR. HARRELL was born Bet. 1740 – 1750 in Augusta/Frederick County, VA, and died Bet. April 27 – August 13, 1822 in Wythe County, VA (Will written April 27, 1822 and probated Aug. 13,1822). He married (1st) HANNAH UNKNOWN. She died Bef. 1784 in Frederick or Wythe County, VA. He married (2nd) MARTHA UNKNOWN. MARTHA was born Abt. 1749 in Frederick County, VA.

Descendants of Reuben Harrell (1750)

JACOB HARRELL is speculated to be the father of REUBEN HARRELL, however proof of this is lacking. We believe that JACOB was born bet. 1710-1720 in VA, and that he married MARTHA CALFEE, who we believe was born bet. 1711-1715. We include Jacob and Martha here for suggested consideration, and further study is needed.

REUBEN HARRELL was born 1750 in Frederick County, VA, and died September 02, 1825 in Washington County, VA. He married REBECCA SMITH Abt. 1770 in Frederick County, VA. She was born Bet. 1744 – 1749 in Frederick County, VA, and died March 12, 1842 in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, KY.

WILLIAM HARRELL was born September 08, 1786 in Frederick County, VA, and died May 29, 1857 in North Bend, Miami Twp., Hamilton County, OH. He married MARTHA “PATSY” BUSSELL August 21, 1806 in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County, IN by Rev. Gibbs, daughter of MOSES BUSSELL and MARGARET HOWELL. She was born November 22, 1787 in Westmoreland County, VA, and died January 19, 1871 in North Bend, Miami Twp., Hamilton County, OH.

NATHAN SR. HARRELL (JOHN “HAPPY CREEK” SPECULATED AS FATHER) was born May 08, 1763 in Frederick County, VA, and died May 24, 1824 in Warren County, OH. He married (1) NANCY WILEY March 10, 1787 in Frederick County, VA, daughter of ALLEN WILEY and EVE HOLTZCLAW. She was born Abt. 1769 in Frederick County, VA, and died 1789 in Frederick County, VA. He married (2) ANN BETTY/BEATTY January 19, 1790 in Frederick County, VA, daughter of GEORGE BEATTY and ANN CULLEN. Unraveling the William Harrells

There were two William Harrells born about the same time in about the same area of Wythe County, Virginia, and they married at about the same time. William (1) was born 1794 and married Elizabeth Hurst 1817 in Wythe County. William (2) was born in about 1797 and married Susannah Florey in 1818, also in Wythe County.

Several years ago, living descendants of William (1) conducted extensive research and—in addition to identifying several generations of descendants—concluded without documented proof that William (1) was the son of earliest known ancestor (EKA) William Harrell Sr.
